Thank you Rita!

                  
           

After 6 and a half  years Rita Evens is stepping down from being our

Director of Religious Education.  Rita was dedicated to the children who depended upon her

to learn about God’s love for them.  She enabled catechists to bring the story of the Lord to life

and to teach our faith by example.  Along with the work with children from K through 8 she also

helped those who wanted to become Catholic to journey to the waters of baptism.  The team of

parishioners from BJS and OLS enabled both young and old to grow in faith and eagerly look

forward to the day they would experience their baptism, the reception of Eucharist and being

confirmed in the faith.  She helped raise funds to keep the religious education program going

and in the black and to make sure all children had the opportunity to attend religious education classes. 

Along with the Confirmation  Coordinator she also enabled our teens to be prepared for the

Sacrament of Confirmation, to participate in retreats, and to attend the Youth Day at the LA Congress. 

To sum it up Rita has been an inspiration to many with her dedication and tireless work in the ministry

of Director.  We thank her for all she has accomplished.  She will remain a vital part of our

community in the various ways she will continue to serve.  We need to thank her husband Benny

for the many ways he assisted Rita in her work.  Both of them are living examples of the Gospel in

Passion of Christ - Living Stations

ALL CONFIRMATION YOUTH interested in participating in the

Passion of Christ Living Stations presentation are invited to a meeting on Monday, January 16th  at

Blessed Serra at 10:00 a.m. Turnout was low for the first meeting and many parts need to be filled. 

Anyone who has signed up or shown interest needs to be at this meeting in order to determine if we

have enough interest for this presentation.  Rehearsal will begin on Sundays in February at Noon. 

Two presentations will be held on Palm Sunday, April 1st.  If you are shy, there are many non-speaking

parts and volunteers are also needed to handle the props.  Remember (you) can earn Confirmation Service

hours during practices and presentations.  Please call the Parish Office for more information.
